I'm new to Reso Hangout, but like what I see. I found this group and knew I needed to join it. I'be built a number of basic "Cigar Box" three, four and five string guitars in the past, but wanted to take on a real challenge---A resonator.
After a good bit of research, I decided on a 000 body design for a biscuit reso.
I have access of an amazing wood shop and some very talented woodworkers, so I selected some nice mahogany and began re-sawing, planing and sanding.
With wood of the correct thickness in hand, I built a male mold for bending sides and a female mold for assembly. A rigged steamer did the trick for softening the side wood.
Many weeks later, I was finally ready to string up my creation and give it a try. I wasn't disappointed. I quickly replaced the imported cone with a Beard, and could tell the difference.
Building is something that is very satisfying and I look forward to several new resonators.
