This is an adaptation of a traditional Maori tune Ma Wai Ra. Recorded for the sound track to the documentary Ka Mate. The Haka.
There are 2 parts and underscores the decline of the Ngati Toa people to a total of 29 adults. The second half of the tune moves to modern days and pollution and destruction of their land in the mid 20th century
I used the Hilo Weissenborne style guitar and a Royal ( Commodore ) Lap steel on this track. Both instruments were made around the 1920's and 30's
