Paul Beard Reso-Contra Bass Guitar

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

A little post to those interested about my search for a reso-contra bass guitar.  The search is over! Paul Beard has built a most amazing and unique instrument for me-upon receiving it at the 2012 NAMM show, I recorded an album with it in collaboration with bassist Steve Lawson, multi-instrumentalist Dayan Kai, and drummer Mike Shannon.  I have posted a little demo vid featuring the bass and some snippets from the upcoming record her on youtube:

BIO: Steve Uccello is an Upright and Electric Bassist, multi-instrumentalist and composer. He's a versatile musician who authentically embraces each style he approaches. Steve has self-produced three solo albums, 2009's Symmetria, an instrumental bass-centric journey comprised of 14 original songs, then, under the name Clarified Birds, an acoustic ambient CD accompanied by an original letter pressed art piece by J.F. Uccello, The Forest That Hears And the Field That Sees. The first solo CD by Steve was 2006's, Polar Vision, a vocal-psychedelic-folk-rock album. Studying under the world-renowned bassists Stan Poplin and Ray Drummond, Steve was the first Jazz Studies graduate from CSU Monterey Bay in 2005. Aside from having 4 instructional videos available through LearnTheLowEnd.com, Steve teaches upright bass, electric bass, and guitar privately. He has also taught taught through Hollister Music and at Robert Louis Stevenson High School in Pacific Grove. Steve provides the bottom end for the Monterey Bay Jazz Orchestra, which played at the 2009, 52nd Monterey Jazz Festival.
