I grew up in a musical family and been around harmony singing all my life. I started playing guitar around 15. I joined a local country group when I was 19 & played drums for the next 8-10 years. My first exposure to the dobro was around 12 when I first met Uncle Josh at Lester's brother's house in Overton County. I fell in love with the dobro's haunting sound under the hand of Josh. In 1973 the band I was in wanted to learn Charlie Daniel's "Long Haired Country Boy" so I volunteered to learn the dobro part which brought me to the Conrad. I played dobro off & on until the early 90's & started dedicating all my playing time to the Reso.
