Hi folks,
Just introducing myself.
I've been contributing regularly on Usenet for many years, but it is slowly dying out, so I've decided to have a look at this forum.- Being a Usenetter from way back I'm against the idea of potential censorship, but we shall see.
I've been playing folk music since the early 60s, and first took up the reso in about the early to mid 80s, a prewar 14-fret Dobro, and started playing slide. My main influence was Fred McDowell, who I had heard in concert in the mid-60s. Since then my playing has slowly shifted in the direction of slide rather than fingerpicking and includes flattop, and more recently electric, in addition to reso. I play Spanish position, but occasionally have a go at lap style, mostly on a kona or electric lap steel; resos come across as too much of a good thing when they are pointing in my direction from less than arm's length. These days I'm at least as interested in just tinkering with guitars as I am in playing, though I go through phases with both.
I have a fair sized collection of guitars, no idea how many, because they multiply if I count them. The one in the pic is a Beltona tricone with a radical cutaway that allows easy access to the 24th fret, I don't know how many of these Steve Evans made, but it wasn't many. It is much smoother sounding than an equivalent modern National; it is my favourite guitar for acoustic slide, and it also works well for fingerpicking. - After I did a lot of work on the incredible shrinking fretboard.
For anyone interested in listen to my stuff (not much reso) I can easily be found on Soundclick under my own name.
Cheers,
Tony

I'm a 60's folkie, really more interested in slide, including electric, than resos specifically. - Mostly arranging folk and blues for slide.
